I've been there. You've got the date circled, the vision half-built in your head — now what? Finding the venue is where it all starts to feel real, and also where it can get overwhelming fast.
Do you elope on a mountain top, logistics be damned? Do you want a venue that handles every detail so you don't have to think twice, or do you want full creative control over every corner of the day? Is incredible food the non-negotiable, or is it more about having the space past midnight so nobody has to cut the party short?
Every Victoria venue I've shot at has taught me something different — and I'm sharing all of it here. Different venues win in different categories, and I'll walk you through exactly which ones, and why.
The Fairmont Empress
An icon for a reason. The Empress brings old-world elegance — grand ballrooms, rich architectural detail, and that unmistakable Inner Harbour backdrop. It suits couples who want their wedding to feel classic and a little glamorous.
Photographer's Tip :
The natural light in the lobby and library is gorgeous for getting-ready and detail shots, even before the ceremony starts.
Hatley Castle
Hatley Castle is the closest thing Victoria has to a fairytale. Stone walls, sweeping gardens, and dramatic interiors give you a backdrop that does half the work for your photos — think editorial, timeless, a little bit dramatic. If you want portraits that feel like they belong in a magazine, this is the venue.
Photographer's tip:
The golden hour light through the garden hedges here is some of the best on the island — worth building your timeline around it.
Right on the water, with gardens and harbour views that give you options for every part of the day — ceremony, portraits, and reception in one place. It's a favourite for couples who want a Victoria wedding that still feels relaxed.
Photographer's tip:
The waterfront path just outside the property is an easy add-on for sunset portraits if your timeline allows.
Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse
For couples who want rustic and refined rather than formal. Rolling orchard views, wood and greenery everywhere, and a laid-back energy that photographs beautifully in natural light. It's one of my favourite venues for candid, unscripted moments.
Photographer's tip:
The orchard rows make for some of the most editorial-feeling portraits I shoot all year — bring the couple here even for five minutes if the reception is elsewhere on the property.
Cedar Haven (Sooke)
Tucked into Sooke, Cedar Haven is for couples who want their wedding to feel like an escape — surrounded by forest, open sky, and total privacy. It's a favourite for anyone drawn to a more intimate, nature-forward day.
Photographer's tip:
The tree line here gives incredible depth in wide shots — this venue rewards stepping back from the couple, not just close-up portraits.
Olympic View Golf Club
Olympic View is the venue for couples who want it all in one place , waterfalls, lakes, mountain views, and a Japanese garden, all inside 500 acres just twenty minutes from downtown Victoria. It's polished without losing that West Coast, natural feel, and the clubhouse's floor-to-ceiling windows mean even your indoor shots get flooded with light. If you want your ceremony and reception in one location without sacrificing a single scenic backdrop, this is it.
Photographer's tip:
Ask about the golf cart ride out to the waterfall and Japanese garden — it sounds like a gimmick, but it gets you some of the most unique portrait backdrops in Victoria, and most guests never see that part of the property.
My Bucket List Venues
These are the Victoria venues I haven't shot at yet — but I'd drop everything for the chance to.
Butchart Gardens
The most iconic garden setting on the island, and for good reason. Colour, scale, and light in every direction. This is a dream venue for a couple who wants their wedding to feel larger than life.
Craigdarroch Castle
A genuine Victorian-era castle with stone turrets and moody interiors. For couples drawn to something dramatic and a little unexpected, this would be an incredible day to document.
Villa Eyrie Resort
Perched on the Malahat with sweeping mountain and ocean views. A dream for a couple who wants their wedding photos to feel like a destination shoot without leaving Vancouver Island.
